There are plenty of great things to do in Bolton over the holidays that won’t cost you a penny.

A walk or run round a reservoir will blow all those cobwebs away. We’ve got the Jumbles and Entwistle reservoir close by in Bolton. Take some bread with you to feed the ducks. A gentle stroll round shouldn’t take more than 90 minutes and is a lovely way to spend the day.

Parks are always popular. Whether it’s a traditional park with swings and slides, or a country park with gorgeous views and scenery, they are a sight to behold. Smithill’s Country Park has great views over Bolton and the Pennines. It is 2,000 acres of farmland and woodland. Animal World in Moss Bank Park has free admission. See butterflies, chipmunks and flying birds. As well as there’s a model railway, tea shop and tennis courts. Queen’s Park is in the centre of town. It is one of the prettiest parks in the area. Play in sand pits, mazes and other play equipment.

Bolton Libraries has tons of free events over the holidays. Harwood library is holding a toddler tales session on Monday 27th May for 2 to 4 year olds and their parents.

Young person’s centres across the borough will be holding games, arts and crafts, drama, music and sports. And obviously, there is no charge for them.

Bolton Museum, Art Gallery and Aquarium is always free admission. See Egyptian artefacts and other historical items at the museum. Watch fish and other marine life being fed in the aquarium. The expedition on at the moment in the museum is Bolton In Pictures. See Bolton through the years by a multitude of different artists. Plus, there’s the chance to make a butterfly mobile on Tuesday 28th May.

Bolton Steam Museum will be holding 2 spring steaming events. Their collection of engines were all built in Bolton and one is the only type of its kind to survive anywhere in the world.

Wheels for all cycling is suitable for disabled people and their friend or family member. Between Monday 28th May and Friday 1st June, starting at 2pm, join in the event.

So there you have it. Leave your purse at home and drop in at one of these events around Bolton.
