Business Bolton and Creative Industries Trafford (CIT) team up in March to present three special events featuring talks, portfolio sessions and expert panel discussion for writers, scriptwriters, fine artists, photographers, designers and craft-makers living, working or studying in Bolton.
The events take place at two key Bolton venues - The Gallery At St George's House and Neo: Artists Gallery - focusing on writing fiction, craft / design and contemporary art.
Councillor Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council's Cabinet Member for Economy, Development and Regeneration, said: "We've organised some fantastic free workshops for the creative industry.
"Writers have the opportunity to meet industry experts from the world of TV, radio and print. We're also hosting portfolio sessions for craft-makers, designers and artists. I'd urge people to book early, as places are limited."
Writing Fiction for Print, Radio and TV
6 - 8.30pm, Tuesday 4th March - The Gallery At St George's House
This event features a panel comprising Henry Swindell (New Writing Manager, BBC Writersroom), Jim Hinks (New Writing Manager at Comma Press) and Ashley Byrne of Creative Director of Made in Manchester (producers for BBC Radio 2, Five Live). The discussion is led by Ric Michael, former Head of Development at Baby Cow Manchester, (makers of Ideal & Gavin & Stacey). The panel will give the inside track on how to submit your work as well as essential tips on writing for each medium.

Portfolio Development for Designer-Makers
6 - 8.30pm, Tuesday 11th March - The Gallery At St George's House
This session looks at portfolio development for craft-makers and designers, featuring designer and artists' mentor Stella Corrall, Ed Chadwick (founder and director of Hebden Bridge's Snug Gallery), alongside photographers Shaw & Shaw, who combine commercial work for clients such as VW and Barclaycard with their own art photography projects.
The speakers will explain the differing considerations necessary when putting together a portfolio - from the perspectives of a successful artist, product photographers and a buyer to give an overview of how artists can best present their work. Shaw & Shaw will also advise on low-cost ways to make your work look its best.
Attendees are invited to bring along either a print (A3 size or less) or digital portfolio on tablet or laptop to take part in an informal portfolio discussion with the speakers at the end of the event.

Portfolio Sessions for Contemporary Artists
11am - 5pm, Saturday 29th March - Neo:Artists Gallery
These popular review sessions give artists a chance to give their portfolio the revamp it needs and get their work in front of experienced art figures. This event is delivered in partnership with Castlefield Gallery, one of the Northâs leading galleries for contemporary art and will allow artists to discuss their work and careers with leading arts professionals in a one-to-one session.
