Backup North West provides temporary supported accommodation to homeless and vulnerable young people aged 16-25, with 7 supported accommodation projects and 2 additional support services.

Partnership

Backup North West provide support and housing for homeless and vulnerable young people.

The scheme also works closely in partnership with a number of other agencies in Bolton to deliver supported housing to young people aged 16-25.

Backup North West helps young people to build the confidence needed to live independently and actively within their local community.


Supported Accommodation  

Backup accommodates 100 young people at any one time and supports 350 every year, the accommodation at BACKUP includes emergency housing, temporary accommodation, short and medium stay supported housing.

All the flats are fully furnished and supplied with bedding, towels, pots and pans, plates and cutlery.

BACKUP Also have the non-accommodation based support work which is delivered from the Chances team. This focusses on mental health, employment support, relationship support and so much more.

When the young person has developed sufficient independent living skills to move into their own tenancy, a support worker will help to arrange this and provide continued support.


How to refer to BACKUP

Ages 16 – 17

All referrals now need to be made by the Integrated Front Door (IFD) team. Referrals can be made by professionals using the online referral form on the Bolton council website here
The form will need to be completed with as much information as possible with the consent of the young person to help triage each case as quickly and efficiently as possible.

If you are a young personal and wish to self refer, you can do so by calling 01204 331500 and select option 2 to speak to a social worker, alternatively you can visit the IFD in person at Castle Hill Centre, Castleton Street, Bolton, BL2 2JW.

Ages 18-24

All referrals for ages 18-24 do need to come from the Housing Options Team in Bolton. Please ring Housing Options on 01204 335900 as your starting point and they can refer to BACKUP or consider other supported housing options available depending on your circumstances.

 

About Backup North West

Backup North West, formerly known as Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme was first set up in 1992 to meet the needs of single young homeless people in Bolton.

The team at Backup consists of over 50 staff and over 25 sessional workers. This team work together to help scheme users to develop basic living skills, assist with problems and promote independence, as well as finding accommodation and providing ongoing support.
