Who remembers the dog racing track, Raikes Lane Bolton? Well over a decade after it closing we may see its return. Not to its original site at Raikes Lane but on another 12-acre site within the Bolton Boundary.

The Bolton Greyhound and Motor Sport Alliance have been campaigning for more than three years now to bring a stadium back to Bolton.

The greyhound track in Bolton originally opened in 1927 and closed over a decade ago but may see a return with enthusiasts reporting they have the backing of stock car event organiser, a greyhound stadium owner and a sponsor willing to give £250,000 for the naming rights to the stadium.

The backers are now just looking for a 12-acre site to build a £2,500 capacity stadium.

This is another great development happening in Bolton which will be fantastic for bringing visitors into the town.

this would be horrific i hope it doesnt return such a cruel sport resulting in many dogs desperate to be rehomed and many cruel early deaths. I am from Bolton and hope our town doesn't support such an old fashioned inhumane 'sport'. report abuse...

http://www.greyhoundaction.org.uk/ This "sport" is responsible for the death of tens of thousands of dogs every year, both through horrific injuries sustained during racing around too tight bends at high speeds & also through their destruction when they are no longer deemed profitable to keep due to injury or just getting slower! Or as pups that are not deemed suitable to race. There will never be enough homes for all the thousands of surplus dogs & so the majority are killed; if they are lucky by a humane method, often not! A new Stadium would be a disgrace for the people of Bolton. To support such Cruelty is not how a town should promote itself or hope to attract visitors! report abuse...
