This cold snap brought home to me the benefits of shopping locally. Some of the freshest and best quality local produce can be found at a number of farmers’ markets in and around Bishop’s Stortford.
Local growers and producers take personal pride in the food they bring to these markets and the emphasis is on freshness, quality and value for money.
This alternative shopping experience not only reduces “food miles”, thus helping the environment, it also puts money back into the local, rural economy – sustaining and creating jobs.
I will definitely be trying some of these out in 2010 kicking off with the Ugley farmers market at Ugley village hall on January 16th. For more information about local farmers markets visit thebestof Bishop's Stortford / events
