Whats on and where to go in Bideford

Bideford is an historic port buzzing with activity. There are sight seeing and fishing trips along the estuary and out to sea. A ferry sails regularly during the season to the unique island of Lundy, where walking, bird watching and peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings can be enjoyed.

Bideford offers a wide variety of shopping experiences with a traditional pannier market and butcher's row, open all year round. In contrast, Atlantic Village, Devon's largest retail outlet, lies just outside Bideford, approx 3 miles from our hotel. With shops, restaurants and an adventure park, there is something for everyone.

A stones throw from our hotel, picturesque Appledore, like Bideford, has an historic quay offering craft shops, galleries and seafood restaurants, set against a backdrop of narrow lanes and fisherman's cottages. Across the river is Instow, with its beach, restaurants and yacht club. The stunning beaches of Westward Ho! and Saunton Sands lie close to the Orchard Hill Hotel with opportunities for swimming, surfing, sand yachting, kiteboarding or just relaxing. Walking and cycling opportunities are plentiful. The South West Coast Path runs close by along the estuary and the famous Tarka Trail passes through Bideford.
