'Large' supermarket earmarked for regeneration site in Beverley

Bookmark and Share

As part of a £120 million regeneration of former factory land in Flemingate, which is overlooked by Beverley Minster, food store plans have hit opposition.  Approval is already in place for non-food shops, a cinema, hotel, housing, offices and a college campus.  Now the consortium behind the scheme want consent for one of the units to be a medium-sized food store, which could be either a supermarket or a convenience store selling food.

Traders, nearby residents and town councillors are objecting - fearing it will damage the town centre trade - early morning delliveries could cause disruption to residents - traffic and parking problems.  The consortium claim the impact on the town centre would be minimal and would provide more convenient shopping for residents from the east side of Beverley.

East Riding Council are expected to consider the proposal in March.
