Brothers against arms

I read a fascinating piece in the weekend paper about a Belper family whose two sons, Captain John Hunter and brother Second Lt. Arthur Hunter, became conscientious objectors in the First World War. Their story will be featured in the Channel 4 show 'Not Forgotten: The men who wouldn't fight', which will be shown tonight at 8pm.

They were from a military family and their parents never spoke to them again. At the time conscientious objectors were branded as cowards and either executed or imprisoned. It would be unthinkable that something like this would happen now, with our Freedom of Speech laws and Human Rights legislation.

Should make interesting viewing.
