Christian Marotta from Bedford, who is recovering from Hodgkin's Lymphoma, is taking part in the ninth Bedford Bikeathon Kidz on Sunday 7 June to raise funds for Leukaemia Research, the charity dedicated to finding better treatments and cures for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Children can really set the wheels in motion for Leukaemia Research at Forest Centre Millennium Country Park, Marston Moretaine, on Sunday 7 June from 11 am to 1 pm. The Forest Centre is just a few minutes drive away from Bedford and has a wealth of facilities with a forest and two lakes on either side.

Christian Marotta, who is 10, from Elstow, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in November 2007. He heard about the Bikeathon Kidz last June when he was still recovering from an intensive course of chemotherapy but was not well enough to complete the ride. A year later, Christian is continuing to improve and is strong enough to take part in this year's event with his mum, dad and brother Paolo, 16.

Bedford Bikeathon Kidz organiser Peter Tanswell from Bedford says: "It's great that Christian is taking part in this year's event. He and his family are determined to give something back to those people who had helped him with his treatment by fundraising for Leukaemia Research. If everyone raises sponsorship money together we can help Leukaemia Research find better, safer treatments for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma."

At the Bikeathon Kidz, children will follow a safe off-road well-marshalled 2½ mile route and they can go round once or as many times as they like. There's also a short toddler route for very young riders which is close to the centre. Parents won't miss out on the fun as they can also take part. Cycle hire is available.

The event will also include a magician, face painting, cycle checks and cycle security stamping. An adventure playground and refreshments are available at the Lakeside café.

Everyone who takes part receives a fantastic fundraising pack, colour-in activity booklet and a T-shirt, plus an Olympic-style medal on the day and a certificate to show off to their friends and family. The event costs £3 if children register in advance or £5 if they enter on the day.
