When 31 Aug 2009
Where Beaconsfield

Following the success over the last two years The Beaconsfield Country Fayre with the ever popular Stretcher Raise will be on August Bank Holiday, 31st August 2009. This annual event is now becoming a regular feature to the August calendar and over the past two years has so far raised over £25,000 for local charities, namely Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, Raise the Roof and other local charities via Lions, Rotary and Round Table.

Undaunted by the Economic Climate, the organisers of The Beaconsfield Country Fayre are determined to organise a fun day for all the family to enjoy themselves and at the same time continue to support local Charities. It has been decided that the net proceeds from the Fayre should continue to be donated to the same local charities and it is hoped that despite the recessionary times, the Beaconsfield Country Fayre will again raise over £10,000 this year.

All the usual stalls and attractions will be at this year's Country Fayre like The Church Tower, Oscar and the Clown on stilts. New attractions are also planned for this year which will include a climbing wall, pat-a-pet and The Great Balloon race. The theme for the Art Competition is "The Undersea World" and there will be an added extra to the Floral and Vegetable Competitions with a new category for children to produce a "Garden on a Plate" from materials which will be made available on the day.

Last year the Beaconsfield Country Fayre attracted over 4,000 people and it is anticipated that this year the Fayre will top this number. More food stalls are planned including a Creams Teas in the Church Garden, Pancakes, Hog Roast, Barbeques and The Old Bengal is running an Indian Food Stall.

The main event will be The Stretcher Race which for those not familiar with this, is a race to see which team can complete a course of seven Pubs/Watering holes in the shortest time drinking a "Half" at each stop. Each team consists of four people (all must be over 18 yrs old) dressed in suitable fancy dress who carry a fifth person on a stretcher around the course. The City Slickers who were last years winners narrowly missed setting a new course record which was set a few years ago in a previous incarnation of the Stretcher Race by a team of Ghurkhas from the Defence School; so will the record be broken this year?
