The Sculpture School Information

The Sculpture School is a unique opportunity to discover and develop your talents in sculpting. With classes designed and led by award winning Andrew Sinclair ARBS and the course administered by fellow sculptor, Diane Coates, you will undoubtedly benefit from the decades of experience these renowned sculptors have to offer.

The courses are completely different to anything else on offer. They are designed to share nearly two decades of knowledge and tricks of the trade and to help you move forward on a practical level. So, whether you are a novice, practised sculptor or somewhere in-between The Sculpture School offers you the opportunity to fast-track your development from the moment you attend. It really is essential for anyone who is seriously considering becoming a consummate sculptor.

There are four modules:

Module 1 - Figurative Sculpture

• Working with a life model
• Understanding and taking measurements
• Making an armature
• Anatomy and physiology tailored specifically or sculpture
• Clay application + use of sculpting tools
• Understanding professional sculpting techniques

Module 2 - Portraiture - Life Size

• Photographing the model
• Portrait measurement charts
• Clay application + use of sculpting tools
• Techniques for sculpting hair, ears + eyes

Module 3 - Advanced Sculpture for Life Size Figures

• Anatomy + Physiology
• Photographing the model
• Life size measurement charts
• Life size armature construction
• Welding
• Making a trolley
• Bending steel
• Clay application + use of sculpting tools
• Techniques for sculpting feet & hands

Module 4 - Moulding + Casting

• Preparing the cast for moulding
• Mixing + preparation for moulding
• Using plas-ti-shim walls
• Removing the mould
• Measuring resin + pigment content - bronze, aluminium etc.
• A free plas-ti-shim kit is provided.

All of the above modules are available to be booked privately and by secondary schools and art colleges and add value to existing art education syllabuses.

plas-ti-shim

Andrew Sinclair ARBS designed the plas-ti-shim kit which replaces the customary clay wall typically used in moulding techniques. It is so flexible and enables the sculptor to cope with difficult shapes by proving a clean cut seam. The plas-ti-shim kit has been developed by WP Notcutt and is available to order via the website.

Andrew Sinclair ARBS and Diane Coates BA Hons are both well established and renowned sculptors in their own right. Andrew features amidst the most inspired figurative, portrait and surrealist sculptors in the UK and has work that is on display both privately and publically. Diane works in a commercial sculpture and casting studio as well as executing both private and corporate commissions, amongst which you will find her celebrated life-size bronze figures. She is also heavily involved in organising and exhibiting the work of The Surrey Sculpture Society of which she is a prominent member.
