Bath Funeral Directors with a personal and caring approach - Clarkson’s Independent Funeral Directors.
Clarkson’s Independent Funeral Directors is based in Bath and has evolved from the long-established firm of ‘Jolly’s of Bath’. The change of name took place in 2001 after the retirement of the former owners.
I, Carol Spalding, managed the business and having a number of years experience in the funeral business decided to buy the company in order to offer a more personal and caring approach to funerals.
I passionately believe that funerals should be tailored to the individual client, reflecting and celebrating the life they have had, rather than focusing on their death.
Funerals have been very slow to change, unlike the way we come into this world, or take our marriage vows, both of which have seen dramatic change in the last 20-30 years.
The majority of funerals will include a religious-based service, whatever denomination, but we are happy to offer alternative choices.
Should a non-religious service be your preferred choice, I am happy to take the service in its entirety or be the link between speakers and music should the family wish to play a more active role.
I believe that once a date and time for the funeral service has been chosen, the rest of the service can be put together a little like a puzzle, arranging all of the pieces until you have the complete picture.
We also realise that it is important for us to remember that we have been trusted to care for someone who is much loved and it is our role to fulfil the wishes of the family and friends.
On a practical level, you can choose from a variety of vehicles including a horse-drawn Victorian carriage, a flat bed vintage lorry, a motorcycle and sidecar, or the traditional funeral hearse.
Wicker, bamboo and cardboard coffins are sometimes chosen as an alternative to the traditional wooden coffin. For those who wish to show a token of their respect, donations are a worthwhile and lasting tribute instead of funeral flowers.
"I am often asked why I have chosen to become a Funeral Director - the answer is simple - I love my job. If we can make such a sad time a little more bearable, then I have done it well.”
