In the final week of his world tour, Junior Membership Club leader Maximus is finishing his travels with some glitz and glamour by taking to the bright lights of Hollywood.

Hollywood, which is in the Californian city of Los Angeles, has been at the heart of entertainment for over 100 hundred years, so Max had little trouble finding fun things to do.

"Ever since my grandfather, Leo the Lion, was the mascot for the famous MGM studio, I’ve always wanted to come to Hollywood,” said Max. “I visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame, watched some great bands perform at the original Hollywood Bowl and learnt lots about the grand history of this amazing place.”

Here are some of the interesting Hollywood facts Max learnt:

    • The famous Hollywood sign (pictured) was first built in 1923. It originally read "HOLLYWOODLAND", which was the name of a new housing development in the hills above Chinatown, a district of Hollywood
    • Filmmakers chose to move to Hollywood in the early 1900s for two reasons: the good weather conditions and to escape the strict rules they had to work under in places such as New York
    • The most expensive Hollywood film ever made is 'Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End'. It cost $300 million to film and made nearly a billion dollars in profit

“I hope you all had a super summer holiday,” said Max. “I certainly did, but it’s now time to come back to the Rec for the new rugby season. I look forward to seeing you all there too next weekend for our first home match of the season!”

Following discussions with Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bristol Water has confirmed that it will bring forward essential works in Temple Street, Keynsham, to coincide with the current redevelopment works.

This will help to minimise ongoing disruption and avoid Bristol Water having to come back and carry out work after the current redevelopment work is completed.

Bath and North East Somerset’s Book Bugs project, which is hoping to train male volunteers as reading companions for young children in pre-schools and reception classes in Radstock and Keynsham, is still in urgent need of more volunteers.

Cllr Dine Romero (Lib-Dem, Southdown), the Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children, and Youth, said; “We have had an encouraging response from the appeal for volunteers that we launched earlier last month.
