Golden Lion Basingstoke
Basingstoke's friendly & welcoming pub
Looking for a homely pub in Basingstoke
with a great bunch of regulars?
Fancy a great quiz night in a
warm & inviting pub?
Then join Carl and Vicky at the Golden Lion public house on the edge of Viables. Under new ownership and more homely than ever, you can relax over a pint, have a meal, play darts, pool, listen to the great juke box or even join their very own pub football team. Every Thursday is quiz night which is proving to be a real hit with the locals.
A bit of history
Built in the early 1900's the Golden Lion public house stands next to one of the two original roundabouts in Basingstoke, the other one being Venture roundabout, before the 1960's campaign to make Basingstoke the original 'Doughnut' city got underway. There are now in excess of 40 roundabouts in and around Basingstoke.
A fresh start
Carl and Vicky Keenan, the present landlord and landlady, moved here just under a year ago and have smartened up the pub from its previously rundown state. They had already built up a good reputation in their previous pub in Basingstoke, the Lamb. Many of their loyal customers from the Lamb are now loyal customers at the Golden Lion as they appreciate the friendly welcome they can be sure of from Carl and Vicky.
Perfect for business or pleasure
Spacious, and warm, the Golden Lion is open from 12 noon to 11pm on weekdays with late night opening until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and plenty of parking. The atmosphere is perfect for a business lunch, to meet up with friends or just chill out with the paper.
It's party time!
The live music evenings have been a real hit so the pub will be organising more live music on a regular basis. Give the Quiz Night a try at 9pm on a Thursday evening - it's great fun and humorously competitive!
A great local pub
A great local pub is part of our national heritage and ideally should be the heart and soul of its community. It should be the place where you can escape to for a quiet beer or meet with friends, colleagues or family for a good natter over hearty cooked food. Go and visit the Golden Lion, you will be very welcome.
