Your Personal Basic Maintenance Check-List for Winter Driving

Bookmark and Share

Every now and then we see news items which give you a list of basic maintenance and things to carry in the car when you set off on a journey in the winter.  I want to give you a useful list you can keep and which will help to make you safe and comfortable this winter.

Basic maintenance includes:

  • Check your tyres and brakes.  Avoid driving through floods if you can.  If you need to, check your brakes as soon as you can safely.
  • Allow your windscreen to de-mist. Don't wipe the windscreen yourself as this causes smears and it's very difficult to see.  use a goodglass cleaner or windsacreen wipess.  Have a decent scraper.
  • Check your windscreen wipers are in good condition and don't forget to turn them off at the end of each journey.
  • Turn on your lights when driving in snow, rain, fog and of course as soon as it gets gloomny.
  • Don't leave fog-lights on and be careful when you use them.  They can be blinding for other road users and need to be used in the same way as you use your full-beam headlights.
  • Drive slowly and carefully, leaving plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front - you never know what they might do next.
  • Do not stop in snow unless you have too as starting off again can be difficult.
  • Help others if they're stuck or experiencing problems.  Working together helps to get stranded cars going again, and keeps the way clear for you to continue your journey.

Next, I'll give you a list of safety and comfort tips for winter driving.  If you have any concerns K-Tech Automotive will give your vehicle a FREE winter healthcheck, so contact us as soon as you can to avoid the rush www.k-techautomotive.co.uk
