Caroline Frankson talks here about the responsibilities of pet ownership.
Here at A2B House Clearance & Removals, Basingstoke, we have been clearing a property in Tadley. Whilst we have been there, a cat has been wandering in and out, and when he was inside, slept for some of the day.
I am not sure, but I think he belonged to the person whose house it was. I will check this out, but in the mean time its occurred to me that probably people die without having made arrangements for their animals. You shouldn’t assume that your relatives or friends that are left behind will have the same affection as you for your beloved pet.
I have spoken to people in the past, who have had animals put to sleep after the death of a relative. For me as an animal lover, that is unspeakable when the animal is fit and healthy he finds himself in this situation. When you have an animal, you owe it to him to make sure he is taken care of in the event of your death.
So, back to the cat - whats going to happen to him? If that is his house, then when we have finished, the doors will be locked and he won’t have anywhere to live, and no food. I know that cats are resilient, and he will hunt for some food, but when he has been loved, fed and watered and had somewhere warm and dry to sleep, and all of a sudden that’s all gone, I think he will be confused all of that will be suddenly gone.
So, although none of us really want to think about our own death, perhaps if you own a pet, just make sure that there will be someone who will take care of them when the inevitable happens.
P.S : we just found out that it was his house, and that he is due to move in next door!
