The shop has had to undergo some extensive rebuilding work this year after a black BMW ploughed into the front of the shop in the early hours of March 14th. Thankfully no-one was hurt in the accident, but it was a huge blow to the shops’ owners Ellen and Allan Queen.
The Queens have owned The Old Smithy for the last 32 years and have built up a wonderful reputation, their fish and chips are amazing and the couple are well liked and are very well respected in the community.
In fact, the support from the local community has been fantastic, with the owners receiving flowers, bottles of wine and cards. Both suppliers and customers have been extremely supportive, and have been looking forward to The Old Smithy opening it’s doors again
Well, seven long months after the incident, the chippy is open and the fryers are back in action. It opened for business on 7th October, and the first customer to walk through the Old Smithy's new front door was Lynn Collier, from Roose.
She said: "We came down here quite a lot and we are really happy that it's reopened. Everyone always says how good a fish and chip shop this place is.
"We have been waiting for it to open again and now it has it's nice to see that its been done out beautifully - it looks lovely."
Its great to see such an well loved business back where it belongs – in the heart of the community. And judging by all the great comments and support its had, I’ll definitely be trying their fish and chips soon!
