The Society has been active since 1973. They host regular monthly meetings, hold public events and own not one, but two observatories, with large aperture telescopes and members that know how to use them. At the club core is a knowledgeable and friendly group of astro-geeks that welcome new members and are happy to help those new to Astronomy as well as talk “shop” with the hardcore enthusiasts. Women make up one-third of the membership.
You don’t need to own a telescope or even a set of binoculars to come along – all they'd like you to bring is a smile and an interest in astronomy.

Their structure is fairly standard – a committee that looks after the day to day running of the society, and themembers who make doing society jobs worthwhile. Here’s the committee as it stands in 2013. It meets monthly, usually on the third Wednesday of each month.

Chairman – Rick Dooley

Vice Chairman -Tom McClenaghan

Secretary – Julie Buckingham

Treasurer – David Brock

Liaison Officer – Judith Brock

Observatory Directors – Mark Buckingham & Stuart Bartlett

Press Officer – Keith Hopper

Web Master – David Hornby

Meets at 19:45 on the first Wednesday of every month.  If you live in the North Devon area and want to come and meet the crowd, share a cuppa and listen to talks given by members on a wealth of subjects, wander along to a meeting – you don't have to be a member to see if it's for you.
