Jeans for Genes Day is the annual fundraising event for genetic disorders and takes place this year on Friday 19th September 2014. Ask your colleagues at work or the children at school to wear their jeans for the Day and make a donation.
Genetic disorders are caused by an alteration in DNA. This may mean that either a gene or several genes are missing, repeated or in the wrong order. Altered genes can affect a child's senses, movement, ability to learn or appearance.
The mission of Jeans for Genes is to raise awareness and promote understanding of what it means to be affected by a genetic disorder. One of the ways they do this is to offer free educational resources to schools.
Just some of the many disorders include: Muscular Atrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, Rett Syndrome, Treacher Collins Syndrome, Brittle Bone Disease and Muscular Dystrophy.
For more information on how to donate, get involved or to find out about more about the disorders themselves visit the website at: http://www.jeansforgenesday.org/.
