6 Dog Friendly Walks/Hikes In And Around North Devon

There are hundreds of different pathways, coastal walks and hikes throughout North Devon and we have an idea that will make putting your boots on and taking in the fresh air a blessing.

First, the best thing about living in North Devon is the coast and it's on our door step.  So, let's all take advantage of this and take a stroll with your dog or entire pack.

Dogs are welcome at:

  • Instow Beach – The dog haven of beaches where the dog is king or queen.  There's plenty of space for your dog to run, jump in the sea and play with other dogs until they are panting and hopefully tired out.
  • Puttsborough to Woolacombe Beach – The walk between these two beaches is a beautiful coastal walk with breath-taking scenery and the wonderful aroma of sea air.  Fill up your lungs and stretch out those legs.
  • If you haven't already walked a stretch of The Tarka Line, then honestly where have you been?  A firm favourite, its the stretch from the Puffing Billy to Yarde and back.  Or if you walking around the Braunton part of the Tarka Line, then stop at the Braunton Inn to rest your legs and re-fuel before taking off to admire the boats and estuary views.
  • Crow Point – Tucked away and mostly unknown from tourists, the views at Crow Point on a clear day are stunning.  Just being there will melt your stresses away.  I'm pretty sure your dog's won't mind either.
  • The Burrows – Braunton and Northam have burrows perfect for your dog's legs and nose.  Great for investigating all the smells with the space to really get into your stride.  Just make sure you keep your dogs on lead near livestock or if required/asked.

Another great tip is to meet up with other friends or dog owners as socialising and walking is empowering for both you and your dogs.

We hope you enjoy our suggestions!  If you have any other's we will be pleased to hear from you at:  barnstaple@thebestof.co.uk.
