Will Barnsley produce the next Billy Elliott?

Following the success of Diversity in Britains got talent and the appearance of sporting stars on Strictly Come Dancing, there has been a significant increase in the numbers of boys and men taking up dancing classes across the country including Barnsley.

Dancing is a great way to keep fit, it builds strength, stamina and increases self confidence and general health. A good dancer is equally as fit as a trained athlete.

It is great to see dance performed well, Diversity are amazing to watch and I love to see the great improvement as contestants perform week after week on Strictly Come Dancing. It really isn't surprising that young boys are keen to have a go.

Kim Frost from local dance school Kim Frost School of Dance has really noticed the impact these high profile TV contests have had with more and more boys joining her dancing school. Kim says that interest usually starts with boys joining boys only streetdance classes which is great fun as well as great exercise. Streetdancing often leads on to tap and ballet and most of her ballet classes now include boys. Several past pupils have gone on to study at The Royal Ballet company and The Northern Ballet Theatre. So who knows, Barnsley may one day produce the next Billy Elliott.
