Hearing the news that your child has been diagnosed with cancer is a nightmare situation which unfortunately happens to lots of families. Besides the emotional impact there are serious practical implications, including the expense and practicalities of looking after sibblings. Many people have the much needed support of close family and friends to help with childcare whilst a parent spends as much time as possible with the seriously ill child, others do not have the level of support needed.
One of the aims of The Pippa Jones Little Treasure Trust is to provide financial assistance to help with childcare.
During many months spent in hospital with Pippa, her parents found that one of the difficulties was keeping her occupied. There was much help available from the play therapists and the school room at the hospital helped immensely. To help further, the Trust aims to supply activity bags packed with games, toys, arts and crafts and goodies to help put a smile on a child's face. They aim to provide children ages 1 to 12 years in cancer units throughout the country with their bags. Brothers and sisters of the ill child will receive treasure bags.
The charity has been set up for just 8 weeks and has raised £2,000 so far and it is hoped that over £5000 will be raised each year. There are lots of events planned including sponsored cycle rides, coffee mornings and house parties. Some of Pippa's little friends are taking part in the Great Yorkshire mini run for 3-8 year olds on Sunday 5th September around Sheffield City Centre.
