In 2012 The Barnsley People's Museum and Archives Centre is due to open. It will take up two floors in the Town Hall and will be devoted to telling Barnsley peoples own stories about life in Barnsley in the past. The Museum is for and about local Barnsley people, the towns history, milestones, major events and also what ordinary life was like on a day to day basis.

Nearly £3m has been awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to create this great new visitor attraction in the town which will be of interest to people from every walk of life.

The Archive Centre will be an excellent resource for local schools and community groups, there will be galleries and exhibitions and a cafe where you can relax.

People from Barnsley are being asked provide items such as documents, films, photographs, memories and stories which can paint a picture of what life was like in the past and help to bring it to life.

The project is entitled 'Experience Barnsley' and there will be events, workshops and activity days all across the borough over the coming months. Everyone is invited to take part and to get involved.
