Well the gardeners in the village of Cawthorne, Barnsley, are not sitting in the shade; they are feverishly preparing themselves for the onslaught of visitors expected for their eighth biennial Open Gardens planned for Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th June.
Over the years this event has grown from eight gardens opened in 1997 which raised £2,700 to seventeen gardens opened in 2009 when a whopping £15,000 was made. The proceeds were a massive boost to the funds of the historic All Saints church Cawthorne.
This year promises to be bigger and better, twenty gardens will be open, and the whole village will be encouraged to dress window boxes, put out hanging baskets and ensure front gardens are looking at their best. As you would expect from a village church event homemade refreshments will be available, there will be a fun competition for children and various events at the gardens, All Saints will be open and every effort is being made to ensure everybody has an enjoyable visit.
Cawthorne is an award winning village with many outstanding visitor attractions, you can be sure to get pleasure and perhaps gardening inspiration from a visit to this popular weekend event.
