The World Cup kicks off on 10 June 2010 and is likely to be more contagious than Swine Flu and Bird Flu combined. But have you thought yet about the impact it might have on your business? Have you decided if you’re going to provide TVs in the workplace, or how you’ll approach holiday requests or requests to swap shifts, or how you’ll deal with those workers who are completely uninterested in the football? It is a fact that more men are interested in football than women; however, you must treat everyone consistently and without discrimination in the process you adopt when authorising holiday or other time off during the games.

Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance – it’s an old saying but it’s as true today as it’s ever been. Now is the time to do that planning so you are prepared to deal with any World-Cup-related accidents in the workplace, infringements of policy and/or unauthorised absences, to ensure that your business continues to run smoothly throughout the games and that your clients’ expectations can still be met.

The HR Dept can help you draw up and implement:

· a plan on how to deal fairly with all holiday requests; and

· policies that will help you deal with anyone who subsequently breaches your rules.

But you may need to act quickly because you will usually need to give your employees 30 days’ notice of a new or amended policy before it comes into effect.

The HR Dept, Andover and Winchester, aims to save SME’s time and money when dealing with employee- and employment-related issues and to minimise the risk of an employer facing a Tribunal claim.
