In the run up to the World Cup and with the school holidays fast approaching, some internet sites are offering a £9.99 BOGOF offer (buy one get one free) on fake Fit Notes. The fake Fit Notes which are high quality reproductions, are very difficult to tell from the original and come complete with a doctor’s stamp.
The HR Dept’s advice to employers is to check Fit Notes carefully and to conduct a robust return to work interview process at the end of the absence.
Of course, an employee only needs to supply a Fit Note to the employer from the 8th consecutive day of any absence onwards and the vast majority of Fit Notes will be completely genuine.
But what can you do, and more importantly what should you do, if you don’t believe a Fit Note is genuine?
If you have any doubts as to a Fit Note’s authenticity it’s important that you handle the matter legally, fairly and promptly. The HR Dept Andover and Winchester can help you do that by talking you through the options and by supporting you if necessary through a formal process to address the issue.
The HR Dept, Andover and Winchester provides affordable and easily accessible outsourced HR advice and support to local SMEs in Andover and Winchester and the surrounding area by working in partnership with them.
