Rushmoor In Bloom... Bloomin Marvelous!

Bookmark and Share

I am always impressed by Rushmoor in Bloom. Right across the borough, as flowerbeds magically fill with colour and fresh greenery it gives me a lift to see as I drive or walk through Aldershot. Especially when there are so many things to bring us down in the economic climate of today, the bright, cheerful displays are a delight and the regularity of the changes to the public flowerbeds and roundabouts mean there is always something new and lovely to look at.

This year everyone seems to have made an extra effort with the highest levels of competition in every category. There were more than 100 entries from residents, businesses, schools and voluntary organisations.  A special judging day took place in July where members of the Rushmoor in Bloom Forum toured some of the best entries aboard an open top double decker bus.

Councillor Frank Rust, Chairman of the Rushmoor in Bloom Forum said: “This year, we were delighted to have lots of new entries from residents’ associations and community gardens. It’s wonderful to see communities joining together to enjoy their gardens and lots of people are also passing on their horticultural knowledge to friends and neighbours.’

If you have taken part this year and especially if you won something, we'd love to hear about it, what it means to you and how you got involved!

The annual Rushmoor in Bloom campaign is sponsored by Squire’s Garden Centre in Badshot Lea and the Aldershot News and Mail.

I love the decorated roundabouts and kerb sides around Rushmoor too and feel extremely proud of them. However, it was with disgust that I watched a motorist behind me lean out of his drivers window to pick flowers from one of the tubs in the central reservation, while we were waiting for traffic lights along the Ash Road last week. Then to my astonishment, when the lights changed, he held up traffic to stop at the next planter to pick some more! The displays are there for everyone to enjoy and if we all carried out this selfish behaviour there would soon be none left. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! report abuse...
