As my son is now old enough to go out with his friends on his own, I like many parents worry constantly during the summer holidays, about where he is and what his is doing.
However, I was delighted to see that he was making use of the new multi-use games area in North Town, situated at Ivy Fields. When I stopped by to pick him up this week, it was reassuring to see him with his friends kicking a ball around in a safe environment, that's easy to get to but far enough out of the way not to cause a nuisance to its neighbours.
The boys said “it's much better than a muddy pitch and home-made goal posts and the sheltered seating area is really cool”.
I understand from recent newspaper reports that the play area was designed following meetings between teenagers, councillors and the North Town Partnership. It certainly gets the thumbs up from my son and his mates and I hope that the other improvements planned for the area follow suite.
