The statue which was displayed at the Wellington Centre after it was built in the 1790's celebrated the town's links with the Royal Hampshire Regiment, which was amalgamated into the Prince of Wales's Royal Regiment in 1992. But the statue was removed from the centre around 10 years ago and put into storage, much to the disappointment of many Aldershot people.

A fund raising campaign has been launched to raise the money to have the unique statue repainted and enclosed in a suitable glass display case and return to a prominent location in the Wellington Centre.

Speaking at the launch Jim's son Ian White said “It was always my Dad's ambition to have the Drummer Boy back in Aldershot. Our family believe this is an appropriate manner for our Dad to be remembered.”

Close family friend North Town Councillor Keith Dibble added “Jim White was known as Mr Aldershot and the return of the Drummer Boy to Aldershot would be a fitting tribute to Jim”.
