Went to the Bear and Ragged Staff for my father's birthday last night. We have visited before and always been pleased with the food and service. Once again we were served with delicious food by genuine caring staff, this place really is an example of how to do the simple things right.
We recently held our annual awards dinner at The Bear and were delighted with the quality of the food and prices. The staff were very friendly and helpful and managed to serve 60 meals without delay. We will certainly go there again. Roger M, Cumnor Cricket Club
We went with a large group of friends for a 40th Birthday party. The food was great and the service absolutely spot on. For most of us it was the first time we'd been but everyone said that they would definately go again. Looking forward to our next visit. Definately recommend.
We have eaten here several times this year, and each time have had fabulous food and very good wines. They have a varied and seasonal menu, and the dining area is comfortable and quiet. There are paintings by local artists on the walls, which are sometimes for sale. The service is very good, the waitresses and waiters attentive and knowledgeable, as is the landlord, who will happily advise on wines. We had their special fish dishes and the in-season game, which were just very good, definitely verging on a fine dining experience, not just a gastro-pub. Their wine list is well thought out, with some wines we haven't seen elsewhere, and the landlord is obviously a wine-buff who chooses his offerings with care. We specially enjoyed the Rustenberg Chardonnay, which at £27.50 a bottle is better than many better-known wines at twice that price - a rich, luscious wine similar to an expensive white Burgundy. The Bear and Ragged Staff will be a definite welcome addition to our dining-out experience. In the words of General MacArthur, We Will Return!
We attended as part of a Christmas function , great staff and great food and very well organised. We stayed in one of the newly opened rooms , wow!! The rooms are amazing , lovely touches , the bed is big , bathroom was amazing especially the shower , truly home from home. Even little touches like a fridge with fresh milk to accompany the fresh coffee, no packets just fresh ground coffee. Someone has clearly done their homework , the decor and facilities were great. I would definitely return again , and stay , and sample the extensive lovely menu they have on offer.
