A Call for the Return of Victoria Statue to Abingdon Market Place

AN ABINGDON grandfather has called for the town’s jubilee statue of Queen Victoria to be brought back to the Market Place 125 years after it was unveiled.

Mike Gould, 63, says the move would be a great way of celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in June.

The stone statue was installed to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887 but was moved to Abbey Gardens during the Second World War to make way for emergency water tanks.
