The Crown is an old country pub in a little village called Pantygelli that has kept the charm of old, combined with a warm welcome, a superb menu, a good selection of beer and a view that leaves nothing to be desired. THE perfect pub!
We had a lovely meal last Thursday evening. My baked avocado was fab! A really nice buzzy atmosphere and excellent, friendly service. Great food, wine & beer too - what more would you want from a restaurant!
Having heard great things about the Crown from friends and relatives for what seems like years, I finally got to eat there in January, and everything I'd heard seems to be true! The quality of the food was excellent and the service was both friendly and professional - we were quite a large party and they catered for us very well indeed. Staff were happy for us to sit and relax till quite late (I think we were the last people out that night!), and to accommodate our messing around when the bill came and various people had to split costs/get change/borrow credit cards etc.I'd definitely eat here again and recommend it to anyone looking for very good quality food in a friendly pub environment.
My husband and I really enjoy going to the Crown for an evening meal. The food is brilliant and fresh. The menu has some classic dishes and some lovely dishes that are a bit different. Its got something for everyone and the pub has such a nice feel, its got lots of character and we always have a warm welcome and good customer service.
It is always delightful to return to the Crown. The company is good and the food is exceptionally delicious. On top of that, the (free!) views are stunning. Always a highly recommendable night out!We´ll be back!!!Udo
Very cute pub. Traditional and well kept and extremely welcoming. Beer good. Recommend the HPA! Wine list good.Food excellent. I normally find something to moan about everywhere I go but this was exceptional. Fresh fish was some of the best. Everything so fresh and well prepared. Clean flavours, nothing was overpowering or over complicated.Staff had smiles. Chatty. Helpful. Very important. We will be back very soon, I'm sure.... Al Oh, and very good coffee.
This has been our favourite venue for a long time. The Hosts, staff, location create an atmosphere & warm welcome rarely found these days. The charming interior is impeccably decorated yet retains the feel of a genuine, homely country pub. Real, well kept beers & a good selection of wines are available. The talented young chef produces a varied menu - starters may include Asparagus spears topped with poached egg,& grated parmesan with a light dressing, and freshly made soups; Mains:-Rump of Welsh lamb with a salad of asparagus, plum tomatoes& red onion with balsamic juice & rosemary potatoes and old favourites like Steak & Ale Pie. Vegetarian & Gluten Free meals are also offered. Lovely puddings & a very good cheese board complete all that is necessary for a 5* Rating. We rarely find cooking and atmosphere of this standard and value on frequent visits to France.
We're lucky to have The Crown as our local and despite the large number of good restaurants around Abergavenny we rarely go anywhere else as The Crown has become our firm favourite.There is an imaginative and ever changing menu and the food is always well prepared and presented. The beer is well kept and the Rhymney Bitter is my personal favourite. There is a good selection of wines and we've always found them of excellent quality. The Crown is a welcoming and friendly pub / restaurant with views of Ysgyryd Fawr from the outside seating area for summer visits, and a roaring log fire to warm you through if you visit in winter.We're more than happy to wholeheartedly recommend it.
The Crown is a beautiful pub set in stunning views, I have eaten at The Crown many times and the food is delicious, especially the Prawn Cocktail and Scampi.The staff are very helpful and also a good laugh. Many thanks to Steve and Cherrie and also the Chefs Gary,Nathan and Nick. Great pub !
We had a couple of recommendations from friends and tried the Crown for ourselves last week. Very friendly reception with great service and excellent food. A very high standard all round and we will be returning in December for another meal, this time with friends. Abergavenny is blessed with good eating places and the Crown fits in with the high standard.

We have just had the most wonderful meal at the Crown. The staff are so helpful and friendly, I couldnʼt recommend it more highly. We will certainly be visiting the Crown again, very soon.
Whatever the weather, whatever the time of day you can be sure of good food and a good welcome at The Crown. We are relative newcomers to the area and the pub but we are very impressed and intend to become regulars. Whenever we go somewhere else for lunch we always end up saying we wish we had spent our money at The Crown.
My wife and I visit The Crown from time to time when we fancy a meal out. We have always found a warm welcome there, and the food is plentiful, well cooked, well presented and reasonably priced. Smaller portions are available for those with smaller appetites. The outdoor seating area is very pleasant when the sun shines, and the service, both inside and out, is good.
We popped into the Crown after a very trying day. The pub is a lovely traditional hostelry and we received a warm welcome from behind the bar. We decided to eat and ordered off the ʼChefs specialsʼ board. The service was excellent and very friendly and our three courses were all delicious. What we both felt made the meal ʼextra specialʼ was the combination of the textures and flavours of the main courses - which showed both flair and great culinary skills. The bill didnʼt cause a heart attack either!We couldnʼt have had a better end to our day!
I hadnʼt been out for Sunday lunch for ages, and when I arrived at the Crown Iʼd forgotten how nice it can be to sit in a cheery pub on a snowy day with a log fire burning and people laughing and talking. Every dish that came out of the kitchen smelled delicious and my own lunch was very tasty, freshly prepared and beautifully presented. The service was impeccable and there was no hint of being rushed or pressured. A superb experience all round.
