We've been going to this fantastic restaurant for years now - so much so that Simon and Kate know when all our birthdays and anniversaries are. The food is always amazing - local, fresh, seasonal ingredients, beautifully prepared, cooked and presented. The service is great - its a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. I'm a teetotal vegetarian, and Simon is always willing to adapt his menu to my requirements - its lovely to find a restaurant that is willing to go to extra lengths.

For too long now this side of town has been in desperate need of somewhere good to go for a night out and great eats - now 1861 has definitely filled the gap. After a slow start it seems to be building up quite a regluar clientele as word spreads about the fantastic quality (and surprisingly good prices) in the restaurant.

While some of the dishes look almsot too pretty to spoil by digging in a knife and fork, itʼs worth overcoming that reticence, as the food tastes even better than it looks. Give this place a try, I predict you will be back again and again.

Visited here for the first time last Friday in a party of six people. We were made welcome as soon as we entered and it was just the beginning of an incredible evening. The food was superb and the service just what it should be - attentive but discrete. A thoroughly enjoyable experience! We will definitely, definitely go back!

A very pleasant experience, excellent food (lamb was melt in the mouth), attentive but unobtrusive service. Wonderful little tasters between courses, things I wouldnʼt normally order but it was great to try them.
