Why does Abergavenny love vintage fashion?

Vintage seems to be the ‘in’ thing, doesn’t it? I sometimes find myself wondering why.

Is it because we’re nostalgic for times when the world seemed a simpler, easier place to be? Or is it because we like continuity, or hate waste? Some mixture of all three, I’m guessing.

One thing’s for sure: Vintage Vision, Abergavenny’s vintage clothes shop which opened  in Lion Street just two years ago, is really doing well. It’s a social enterprise, which means that it’s about much more than just selling clothes – it’s a place for women to share their sewing skills too, and where those who want to get back into employment after a break can get some valuable work experience.

The Vintage Vision Team have organised a Vintage Fashion Fayre in Abergavenny’s Market Hall this Sunday, 13th November. It’s the third one they’ve run this year, and there were over visitors at the last one.

There’ll be lots of stalls open from 10am, with a range of itesm including books and collectables, plus several fashion shows during the day. And tea and cake will be served on real china tea services!

Looking ahead a liitle way, on Saturday 3rd December  Vintage Vision will be joining with Dance Blast to put on a Swing Hop Social at Abergavenny’s beautiful new Dance Centre in Pen-y-Pound. Time to dress up and try out jive, lindy hop and other great moves.

Dance Blast’s first dance social is next Friday, 18th November, and that’s going to be a salsa evening.  No need for a partner, just turn up from 7pm, and get your hips moving.
