Whether you’re looking for outdoor or indoor entertainment, you should definitely find something to interest you in town this weekend. On Saturday evening, Abergavenny and District Round Table are putting on their annual Fireworks Extravaganza in Belgrave Park.
The gates open at 6pm and the organisers are expecting a big crowd, so get there early. The professional firework display is set to music provided by Mountain FM.
I’m told there’s always a great atmosphere on the night and all profits made go to local charities. Refreshments are available, but you might fancy going out for a meal afterwards.
One of the local businesses sponsoring the fireworks event is BestofAbergavenny member The Sundarbon, serving fragrant Bengali and Indian dishes at 7 Monk Street. Call the restaurant on 01873 852692 to reserve a Saturday-night table.
If you’re speedy, you might be able to combine the fireworks with Gwent Bach Society’s concert, which starts at 7.30pm at St Mary’s Priory Church. The 60-strong choir has a feast of classical music in store, including music by Palestrina and Schütz, and two sections of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, with soloists from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Check out our events page for more details.
Enjoy your evening this Bonfire Night, but do remember that it’s not your pets’ favourite night of the year – keep them in if you can, and protect them from the frightening bangs of the fireworks by putting on the TV or some calming music.
