August Bank Holiday weekend is a time you definitely do not want to be on the road. There are bound to be traffic jams and frayed tempers, in my experience.
Luckily, if you live in Abergavenny, you don’t have to travel far for some exotica this weekend because Thailand is coming to town. The Bridge Inn at Llanfoist is hosting an intriguing-sounding Thai Food Festival this Sunday. We’re promised a range of tastes, music and dance from the Land of Smiles.
There’ll also be a visit from some Thai monks based at a temple in Tredegar. This is surely going to be something very special, so I for one will be down there early in the day to catch the action and see what Thai delights are sizzling on the BBQ.
Of course we’ll all have one eye on the skies above, as rain is something else associated with Bank Holidays. But there are many indoor delights on offer locally. There's a weekend chock-full of first class arts and crafts at the Court Cupboard gallery in Llantilio Pertholey. Go along to watch the talented producers making jewellery, pottery and gorgeous artefacts off all sorts and see if you can resist taking something home with you. I never can! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=109430352489973
There’s also a Gift Fair in the Market Hall in Abergavenny on Monday, and I see that on Saturday local author Owen Sheers is signing copies of his book “Resistance” at Book-ish in Crickhowell.
I really loved the book and I’m looking forward to seeing the film, due out in the Autumn. Meantime the book-signing heralds the opening of an art exhibition at Crickhowell's 'Gallery on the Usk' by Dan Llewelyn Hall, who worked as the set artist on the film.
So there’s my weekend mapped out. Whatever you do ,enjoy yours!
