Has Abergavenny finished its Christmas shopping?

If you’re super-organised, by now you’ll have bought all your presents, decorated the house and got all your Christmas food on order or in the larder. Maybe you’ve been baking and have frozen some edible treats already, like the traditional whimberry and apple pie? Or maybe not, and like me, you leave things to the last minute.

No matter; the shops in Abergavenny will be open for you until Christmas Eve, but remember there will be big queues in the local butchers’ shops, so it's best to think at least a few days ahead, especially for your meat. Rawlings Butchers in Market Street will deliver anywhere in the UK for free on orders over £100, although don't leave it too late to place your order or the weather might interfere with the delivery.

There’ll be the usual brilliant markets in Abergavenny on 22nd, 23rd and 24th December so you can stock up on Christmas favourites like dates, nuts and oranges, as well as the inevitable sprouts and parsnips.

And don't forget that the parking in town is free again this weekend so you can stay all day and break up your shopping with a coffee or lunch break.  We have over two dozen great places to eat and drink, plus many pubs!

Christmas is a time to offer cheer to one another, and what better way than through music? The Abergavenny Borough Band will be playing Christmas carols in town on Christmas Eve, and this Saturday, 17th December, they give their annual Christmas Concert in the Borough Theatre, with support from the Junior Band and a choir from Gilwern Primary School.

Another tradition in these parts is the Unicorn Singers' Christmas concert in St Catwg’s Church, Llangattock, which is on Friday 23rd December. It’s always a sell-out so make sure you get there in good time for the 7.30pm start.

Well, I’m signing off now for my festive break and wish you all a Very Happy Christmas.  Will it be a white one, I wonder?
