Young businesswomen are certainly making a name for themselves locally. Bookish, Emma Corfield-Walters’ shop in Crickhowell selling fabulous books, toys and gifts has just celebrated its first birthday and Emma’s enthusiasm and commitment is taking it from strength to strength.

Here in Abergavenny, Ginevra Croft’s new enterprise The Wool Croft has only been open for two months but is already attracting customers from far and wide. The shop is a stunning kaleidoscope of colour and textures.

Forget the old days of wool shops with a mountain of assorted bags of wool piled up behind the till. Ginevra’s beautifully laid out displays enable you to handle the beautiful yarns from Debbie Bliss, Rowan, Louisa Harding and the Natural Dye Studio, and to see all the available colours.

There’s also a range of natural Welsh wools which Ginevra sources from a farm near Brechfa in Carmarthenshire, where a pedigree flock of sheep are reared specifically for good quality wool.

Whether you’ve always knitted or you’re a complete beginner, The Wool Croft is a welcoming haven in the very heart of Abergavenny. Ginevra  runs “Knitting Out” sessions in the Angel Hotel on Wednesday evenings from 7.30, and from next week will be hosting a drop-in knitting/crochet group in her shop on Thursday afternoons from 2.30.

There’s nothing like hands-on advice from an expert to give you confidence so why not give it a try?. I’ve even found I can do cable knitting!

If you haven’t already discovered The Wool Croft, you’ll find it at 9 Cross Street, near to The Art Shop and opposite Cwtch café.  Funny thing, they’re run by local businesswomen too!  If you have a local business we need to know about, please get in touch.
