Abergavenny - creative capital of south Wales?

A friend of mine has just become a grandmother, so I’ve got an excuse to knit something for a baby. Time to get down to Abergavennny’s lovely local wool shop The Wool Croft  in Cross Street and see what new yarns they’ve got in stock.

I’m thinking maybe a little woolly caterpillar suit in greens (like the one in the photo) rather than using traditional white or pastel shades.  Then I might just pop next door to The Art Shop for some more inspirational ideas. When the days are dull and damp, bright things can really cheer us up.

If you like knitting and fancy doing some of it in company, or you'd like a bit of help with it, call into The Angel Hotel on a Wednesday evening after 7.30pm for some Knitting Out – you’ll find fellow knitters in the lounge or one of the bars, so just buy yourself a drink and join in.

If you want to try out something new in the creative arena, take a look at the workshops on offer at Arts Alive in Crickhowell in the next couple of months. There are pottery, drawing and painting classes, plus some more unusual crafts including making fused glass and keepsakes books. Go to www.artsalivewales.org.uk for all the details.

If you can’t wait to make a start, there are workshops this very weekend at The Court Cupboard Gallery in Llantilio Pertholey, so ring the relevant tutor to reserve a place – Noel Delaney (07511 521283) is giving a pottery class on Saturday 7th and Cynthia Frost (01600 714240) is teaching sugar craft.  In creative terms, we're really spoilt for choice!

It's almost spring - time to get creative!
