Chikara Martial Arts is a centre of excellence where it comes to providing a wide range of martial arts, self defence, and keep fit activities for adults, children and families. With many experienced martial arts instructors, a purpose built dojo and excellent facilities, Chikara Martial Arts is a safe and fun environment for anyone wishing to keep fit, learn a new skill or enhance existing training.
A full timetable of martial arts and fitness classes is available for members to participate in as few or as many classes as desired. With an excellent ratio of instructors to students, and an emphasis on respect and safety you will be able to develop new skills quickly.
To give you a little information about some of the martial arts classes available at 7KS Chikara Martial Arts a short description follows:
Kickboxing - A combination of Martial Arts style kicks and western boxing punches to defeat an opponent in a similar way to that of standard boxing. Kickboxing is a standing sport that does not allow continuation of the fight once a person has reached the ground. All punches and kicks must land above the belt. Kickboxing can be practiced as a great way to keep fit and gain confidence, or can be practiced as a full contact sport.
Mixed Martial Arts - (MMA) is a full contact combat martial art in which a wide variety of fighting techniques are used, including striking and grappling. MMA was originally based on the concept of determining which system would be more effective in a real, unregulated combat system. Now, however, events have implemented safety rules for athletes and to promote acceptance of the sport.
Ju-Jitsu - Literally meaning the art of softness. Ju-Jitsu is a Japanese martial art consisting primarily of grappling techniques. Ju-Jitsu focuses on using the attacker's energy against them rather than directly opposing them. Practice of Ju-Jitsu take the form of pins, joint locks and throws.
Thai Boxing - This martial art uses kicks and punches in a ring with gloves similar to those used in Western Boxing. Muay Thai is referred to as the science of eight limbs, using the hands, shins, elbow, and knees extensively in this martial art.
All of the above martial arts can be practiced with different levels of contact and no student will be expected to participate in full contact training unless they have a specific desire to do so.
