Over 140 of Suffolk’s finest artists will open their studios to visitors for free during the four weekends of June between 11am and 5pm
The artists’ skills cover a very wide range of art forms including textiles, ceramics, sculpture, glasswork, jewellery and photography as well as painting in watercolour, oil and acrylics. Seven of these artists live in Ipswich.
Lynsey Adams is a ceramist creating Raku and smoke fired pottery. You will though, be able to view her textiles and painting, all inspired by colour, texture and pattern seen in nature, the coast, and creative decay in fragments of landscape.
Hugh Bothwell Green’s main portfolio comprises of detailed watercolours derived from an extensive personal photographic archive. His subject material is mainly land and seascapes. He also likes to paint subjects that evoke past memories.
Textile artist Jay Edwards specialises in hand weaving and dyeing; she has been teaching and working in these media for over 30 years. Her primary interest is colour and the way it works in weave. She makes scarves, shawls and blankets as well as furnishing fabrics and she will design to special commission
A career in architecture has shaped Brian Jepson’s interest in drawing and painting. Local dockside and town centre influences abound in Brian’s work but wider subject matter throughout the UK and France continue to appeal to him, resulting in a wide repertoire.
Maureen Jordan paints in bold pastels sometimes mixed with Acrylics. She is inspired by light on flowers, in gardens and landscapes. Her life drawings glow with vitality in the colour reflections onto the skin.
The figures in Ken Minns’ compositions gives them life and vivacity. He paints seascapes, landscapes and interiors in acrylic and oils and he restricts his palette to using a knife more than a brush.
Hilli Thompson is locally famous for her colour co-ordinated outfits and this exuberance is reflected in her work. Hilli always uses vibrant colours both for her glass works and her pastel paintings.
