Look who is coming to Formby!

On Thursday 6th March 2008
WORLD BOOK DAY: Venue CROSBY CIVIC HALL
We are delighted to announce that we have two phenonemal authors as our guests.
Anne Fine (Childrens Laureate 2001-3) and Joseph Delaney (Winner of Sefton Super-Reads 2005)

Both authors will give two talks to children from our local schools during the day.
Children can then use their special £1 WBD voucher to get a discount on a signed copy of one of their great books.

In the evening 7p.m. 'til 9p.m.
Anne Fine will talk about how we can encourage children to read, how to make it fun and what we can do to join in too.
She will also talk about her brilliant new adult bestseller "Fly in the Ointment" and this will be the first chance anyone has to buy a copy and you can get it signed, we will also have a range of her childrens books too. If you don't have a spare WBD voucher, we will let you use your ticket for a discount.
Tickets are just £2 and available from both branches of Pritchards and all Sefton Libraries.

Throughout the school year we regularly take authors into schools to discuss their work, writing and creativity with groups of children.
If your school would like an author at some point it would be nice to get their relevant contact details and then we can contact the publicity depts at the publishers.

Already scheduled for this year are:-

Philip Caveney his "Sebastian Darke" novels are a super blend of fast paced action and inventive wit. He has drawn on his wealth of experience and has brought to life a great set of characters and settings that will delight readers of 9-90. If you like Shrek, Pirates of the Caribbean, Princess Bride or any traditional fantasy then these are ideal. Philip has a new series launching in the Summer which are destined to be as big as Horowitz and Higson for action fans. "Alec Devlin" wll be the next big thing in kids action adventures.

Matt Haig winner of the 2007 Nestle/Smarties prize for his superb "Shadow Forest", a comically dark adventure for fans of Dahl and Grimm. Matt has set his story in a sinister Norwegian forest where you enter at your peril, all sorts of strange and deadly creatures lurk within and the evil Shadow Wizard controls them all and captures any visitors in a most sinister way. Young Samuel Blink enters to save his dumb founded sister and must keep his wits about him and hang on to his copy of the book "The creatures of the Forbidden forest" which might just save him...
Matt has written two adult bestsellers too and has a new one due in May 2008.

Gareth Thompson has two beautifully written teen novels set in Cumbria with a lovely blend of the changing seasons and the trials and tribulations of growing up, he deals with life's complexities in a sympathetic way and is promising to become a true force in emotional teen lit.
"The Great Harlequin Grim" won many great reviews in 2007 and has a lot to say about frienship, courage and deals with bullying through the use of a 7ft tall outsider and his friendship with a boy he rescues from a quarry.
"Sunshine for the Sunless" starts with a tragedy in the bay at Millom and builds a fascinating tale of a Daffodil cross breeding hero and his growing love for the girl he helps with the local pageant.

Tom Becker winner of the Waterstone's Teen Book Trust Award in 2007 will be back with the third in his terrifying but absorbing "Darkside" novels in June.
Joseph Delaney will tour our part of the County to launch his fifth in the phenonemal "Spook's Series" in Early June, "Spook's Mistake" promises to be even better than the previous books and Joe is fast becoming a big star with a tour of Australia/New Zealand in the Autumn and a film by Tim Burton in the offing too.
We will take him to several schools and have an evening at a big hall (Pool/Gild/Civic tbc). I genuinely feel we have the answer to what to read after HP with Spoo

    x  RSS Feed

    What are RSS Feeds?

RSS feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest headlines and stories in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.

How do I start using feeds?

In general, the first thing you need is something called a feed reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. IE 7.0 has a good feed reader built in, otherwise try Feedreader.
