Kerr's Miniature Railway in Arbroath, east of Dundee, is Scotland's oldest small-scale line. Since 1935 the railway has been an entertainment tradition in Arbroath and Dundee with generations of children riding the coastal line.
Planned and built by Matthew Kerr, the railway has been lovingly run by three generations of the Kerr family.
The track runs a quarter mile along the beautiful Arbroath sea front and its not uncommon to see parties of parents and grandparents from Dundee and area bringing along their children and their children's children for a 'hurl' like they did many years ago.
The track features a number of locomotives. There's Firefly, Ivor, King George, Auld Reekie and the Twins.
Opening times:
- April, May, June 11 am to 4 pm (Sat and Sun only)
- July 11 am to 4 pm daily
- August 11 am to 4 pm Daily for first half then Saturday & Sunday only
- September 11 am to 4 pm (Sat and Sun only)
Please note: All activities are weather permitting. The two steam locomotives, miniature buses and fire engine, only put in an appearance when the weather is fine and bright.
The miniature railway is a friendly, family run activity, manned by enthusiastic people, so if you see a train at times outside those shown, it is always worth asking if you can get a ride. They're usually only too happy to oblige. Anything to stop work and have a chat!
Make sure when going to Kerr's Miniature Railway to tell them you heard about them in The Best of Dundee
