Chester Cathedral - discover, explore, enjoy

Chester Cathedral - discover, explore, enjoy

Chester Cathedral - one of Chester's major tourist attractions

There has been a church on the Chester Cathedral site for well over 1,000 years.  It was originally a Saxon Minster, then rebuilt as a Benedictine Abbey. The magnificent building that stands now  has been the Cathedral of the Diocese of Chester since 1541.

When planning your tourist trip or day out, ensure that you don't miss seeing the intricately carved Quire stalls that are the finest in the UK and almost 800 years old, together with the Medieval shrine of St. Werburgh with modern works of art and stained glass.  The Cloisters and Church form one of the most complete medieval monastic complexes in the country.

When you visit Chester Cathedral there is much for visitors to see and discover, during a weekend trip or day out, within the Cathedral and extensive grounds.
