An Otter Summer

Grant Maton of Essex Wildlife Trust tells me that they have just launched an Appeal to run throughout the Summer 2008. The appeal is called an Otter Summer. Appeal letters have gone out to the 25,000 individual member's of the trust and to 490 Corporate Members.
To allow Otter populations to broaden, riverside habitats in Essex need to be improved. Reed beds should be encouraged as they provide cover and resting sites for Otters, and the restoration of degraded waterside habitat is needed. However, while much has been done to re-establish Otters here in Essex, there is still a great deal more that can be done with your help.
Information about the appeal and ways in which people can donate can be found on the appeal's dedicated website: http://www.anottersummer.org/
Please have a look at the site and pass the link onto your contacts if you feel they would also be interested.

A Further update from Grant

"Just to let you all know that we have raised an absolutely fantastic amount of £24,455.89 towards our conservation work helping Otters return to Essex and preserving their wetland habits. We had set ourselves a target of £25,000, so we are immensely pleased with our members support, particularly in the current economic climate! A big thank you to those who donated!! Obvioulsy if anybody wants to help us reach the £25,000 that would be great, please give me a call.
Kind regards
Grant"

Grant Maton passed on an update of how the Otter Summer Appeal went.

Grant says

" Thank you to everybody who kindly donated to this year's Otter Summer Appeal.

The appeal has been running for almost 2 months now and has currently raised over £22,000. These vital funds will allow the Trust to carry out essential maintenance of the wetland habitats and river corridors in Essex and ensuring that Otters continue to thrive throughout Essex.

Our summer road show events are still taking place, and if you would like to come visit us at one of these events, we would love to meet you and thank you for your generous donation. Please visit our website, www.anottersummer.org for a list of events, or call Zoë Wood on 01621 862996 for further information."

I great job done by all at Essex Wildlife. Malcolm

Once again, thank you for your donation. With the help you have given, we can ensure that Otters continue to spread throughout Essex and help to protect wildlife for the future. The appeal still runs to 30th September
