Everything you have ever wanted to know about selling on Ebay

Hi- my name is Glenn Hughes- I live in the Bridgend area and I've been buying and selling on Ebay® for the last four years- I've learned a lot in that time, and although I don't do it full time, I have learned that there's a right and a wrong way to go about it.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be blogging on the subject of selling on Ebay®. Ebay® selling can help you clear out the unwanted items in your house- Ebay® estimate that the average household has around 2000 pounds in unwanted goods that someone else will pay money for!

So let's get started- Register with Ebay

Go to www.ebay.co.uk

The very first thing that you will need is an account with Ebay®. The first step that you will need to complete is to choose an Ebay® id. This is a very important step- similar to getting an email address. The actual id that you choose is up to you but choose it with care. The id is exclusive to you, and everyone who looks at anything you buy or sell can see it. My advice is to choose something generic and not too specific to you. You can change your id at some point in the future but anyone who cares to look at the details of your account can see the changes that have been made.

If you know for certain that there are specific items that you are going to sell, then it may be worth using an id that relates to your product range. My advice is not to do this- just choose something non-offensive and unique

Ebay® will send you an email to confirm your id, which you need to click on and confirm. This is a very straight forward process, but you will need to make sure that the email from Ebay® doesn't end up in your spam folder. Check your spam folder, and make sure you add Ebay® to your list of approved email recipients.

Open a PayPal account

You don't have to do this but if you don't then you won't get far. Internet shoppers are generally very impulsive and want things straight away. PayPal is safe and a relatively cheap way for you to take credit cards from people.

87% of Internet customers pay by credit card. That's why accepting credit
cards online is proven to boost orders by nearly 400% (compared to just
offering the option of sending in a cheque or postal order).

Go to www.PayPal.com and follow the instructions on the site. You don't have to register a credit card and bank account with them but you really do need to do so if you want to succeed.

So go ahead and get you accounts with Ebay® and paypal opened- next week, I'll let you know more about how to sell that first item on Ebay®. In the meantime, if you've got any questions, please email them to glenn@realinformationonline.com and I promise I'll get back to you as soon as I can
