The Thatchers Arms, Mount Bures:

Public Houses, Bars and Inns in Braintree

The Thatchers Arms is a beautiful country pub and restaurant that is situated on the Essex & Suffolk county borders. With stunning views over the Stour Valley, The Thatchers Arms has been under the ownership of Mitch, Tony & Janet Adams since November 2006.

At The Thatchers Arms, both staff and management are very passionate about everything they do. The Head Chef prepares home cooked meals from fresh, locally sourced ingredients on the premises. These include steak and ale pies, real gravy, home cut chips, steamed puddings, and homemade custard.

Beers are sourced from local breweries - Adnams, Crouch Vale and Mersea Island to name just a few. Even the crisps are produced in Wormingford - just down the hill!

The desserts are definitely to be recommended! Such handmade desserts include Steamed Puddings, Chocolate & Amaretto Mousse Chocolate Brownies.

Mitch is just as passionate about drinks as he is about food. With a great range of drinks from Real Ale Beer and Fine Wines to World Beers & Single Malt Whiskeys. The pub also stocks a large range of local fruit juices from James White in Ashbocking and farm pressed apple juice from Whites Farm in White Colne.

The Thatchers Arms Pub keeps Adnams Bitter & Crouch Vale Brewers Gold on the bar and the guest ales change regularly. The pub sources these mainly from local microbreweries such as Nethergates, Mauldons or Mersea Island. Check out The Thatchers Arms website for a sneak preview of the current beer list.

The Thatchers Arms

My partner Lee and I visited this pub on 5th July for The Elvis night + BBQ and camped through to the following Sunday for a roast. On first entering the pub grounds you are overwhelmed with the views of rolling hills and countryside as far as the eye can see. Parking and pitching the tent was easy. We found out later in the evening the Landlord Mitch had driven his vehicle alongside our tent to act as a wind block - how more personal and caring a service can you ask for?!! The pub was highly maintained and run throughout the evening and following day, and staff were all friendly. Even the pub dog Dylan had a warm doggy tail wag and greeted us on the Sunday morning. Elvis was fab entertainment, making the women swoon and EVERYONE dance! The atmosphere was great. The food was cooked to perfection and the knowledge of which cask beer to suit your palette - spot on! Given the varieties I tried I was expecting a hangover, but no, my head wasnʼt thumping in the morning, so the cask ales/beers must be of fine ingredients. But Iʼd still recommend a Bloody Mary with your Sunday roast! YUM! Weʼll definitely be back!!! Thank you! Emma and Lee

I am so pleased to feature The Thatchers Arms on The Best Of Braintree - anybody who visits will be able to tell you what a delightful little find it is! The menu offers a variety of beautiful dishes and the bar is always well stocked to cater for everybody. I personally visited a couple of weeks ago when Mitch was hosting a beer festival at the pub - the atmosphere there and in the bar and restaurant was fantastic - not a bad word to be heard from anyone!
