A definition of the charitable work carried out by Macmillan states:

We are a source of support, helping with all the things people affected by cancer want and need, and a force for change,  pushing for better cancer care.

We supply practical, emotional and financial support, information and specialist health care.

We deliver our own services and work with people affected by cancer and other partners such as the NHS to develop new services.

From campaigning and influencing policy, to conducting research into cancer care we act to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

We are a charitable organisation and rely on voluntary donations for 99% of our income so we simply couldn't do what we do for people affected by cancer without that support.

Local people in the Blackburn area are never far from support if help is required.

Macmillan Cancer Support
24th June 2008
In the November of 2005, when Linda my wife was diagnosed with Leukaemia, we really did not understand what Macmillan Cancer Support was about. Sadly Linda lost her courageous year long battle and we never used the services of Macmillan. Subsequently I have met with several Macmillan representatives, including nurses and fundraisers, and I now know the varied services they had to offer would have proved extremely useful. I would wholly recommend anyone touched by cancer to use Macmillan and their wonderfully supportive and knowledgable people
Truly Exceptional
