WORSBROUGH St Thomas
HERITAGE TALK - Thomas, Mary, James and Luke: Churches and their Saints in the South Yorkshire Coalfield
Join us for a fascinating talk about the dedication of St Thomas Church.
The talk will be given by Dr Graham Jones, author of ‘Saints in the Landscape’, the first comprehensive survey of religious dedications in Britain. Dr Jones is on the research staff of St John’s College, Oxford, and a Senior Research Associate of the Oxford University Centre for the Environment.
He believes that the choice of a church’s patron saint can teach a lot about the local community, its concerns, character and history, and so deepen our understanding of the church’s mission for the future as well as its past.
This event is part of a series celebrating the 150th anniversary of St Thomas church, Worsbrough.
