Some of the world's most environmentally friendly products made are produced from hemp, and now they are available to Abergavenny eco warriors. The range of hemp products available is constantly expanding as people learn to appreciate its many qualities.
Maturing in only 100 days, hemp is drought resistant and will flourish without herbicides or pesticides, producing nearly four times as much raw fibre as a tree plantation of equivalent size. It can be used to manufacture many everyday products such as paper, lighting oil, animal bedding and more, without damage to the earth’s environment, so it’s far more eco friendly than any extruded plastics or other oil-based production methods.
Although not widely known in Abergavenny, hemp based environmentally friendly products have been used by the human race for over ten thousand years and hemp was our planet’s largest agricultural crop until 1883.
Now Hempish are getting back to basics and can offer healthy hemp oil and seeds, biodegradable body lotions and soaps, all vegan products, and hemp clothing and accessories, and all their environmentally friendly products are Fair Trade approved.
Eco friendly travellers, from Abergavenny and beyond, will be delighted to hear that hemp clothing repels up to 95% of the sun’s rays, and is far healthier and more environmentally friendly than synthesised sunblock products. It’s also soft, breathable and three times as strong as cotton. Or why not be an eco aristocrat and try our bamboo and soya clothing, soft and smooth as silk.
While Hempish have no retail premises in Abergavenny at present, our range of hemp products can be found on Fridays and Saturdays at Monmouth market (near Waitrose, but call first to check we’ll be there), and we will be exhibiting at the Cardiff Natural Health and Healthy Living Show 19th & 20th April held at the Cardiff University Students Union Block, Senghennydd Road, Cardiff.
